It quickly turned into the most popular sport and during 1893 the first Jamaican football club was formed. The governing body of the Jamaican football is The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF). The federation was formed in 1910 and it is responsible for the organization of the national teams and the Jamaican National Premier League. The current president of the JFF is Crenston Boxhill, the General Secretary is Burchell Gibson and the treasurer is Rudolph Speid. Jamaican football structure features clubs, super leagues, the parish football associations and the KSAFA Syd Bartlett League. The Jamaican National Premier League is the highest level in Jamaican football. Football clubs are separated on geographical grounds. Generally there are four clubs -
This way the four confederations are formed. Each one has its own Super league. The four Super Leagues are KSAFA Super League, South Central Confederation Super League, Eastern Confederation Super League and Western Confederation Super League. The third level of Jamaican football is represented by the parish football associations. In the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, KSAFA has a third level league called the KSAFA Major League. The rest of the parishes have one league competition in each parish. The teams who win in the parish championship can play in the super league of the confederation. The forth level of Jamaican football is the KSAFA Syd Bartlett League. The other parishes have a Division One league to give 13 fourth Level leagues. |
